Ultrasound could reveal hidden injury risks in athletes

NCT ID NCT07485530

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study uses ultrasound to track how soft tissues like ligaments, tendons, and muscles stretch and move in different groups: baseball pitchers, people with ankle tendon problems, and patients recovering from ACL knee surgery. Researchers want to see if these measurements can help predict injury risk and guide better rehabilitation. The study involves 80 participants and will test specific exercises like blood flow restriction training and Nordic hamstring exercises.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to better ways to assess injury risk and design more effective physical therapy programs for athletes and patients with tendon or ligament issues.

What could go wrong

This is an early-stage observational and feasibility study with small groups. The techniques are still being validated, so results may not directly change clinical practice.
