New ultrasound technique could sharpen ovarian cancer detection
NCT ID NCT07280312
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a new ultrasound technique called microvessel imaging (UMI) to see if it can better detect small blood vessels in ovarian lesions, which may indicate cancer. Forty women scheduled for ovarian surgery will receive both standard and UMI ultrasounds. Doctors will compare the imaging results with the final surgical findings to see if UMI improves accuracy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Ultrasound microvessel imaging (UMI) and transvaginal ultrasound
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a more accurate, non-invasive way to assess ovarian lesions, helping doctors decide who needs surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (40 people) testing a new imaging technique. It may not prove better than current methods, and results may not apply to all patients.
