Teens with diabetes get a buddy system to boost glucose monitor use
NCT ID NCT06203067
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests a 6-month peer mentorship program for adolescents with type 1 diabetes who struggle to use continuous glucose monitors (CGM). Participants are randomly assigned to standard care or the Type 1 Together program, which pairs them with mentor families and provides educational resources. The study aims to see if the program improves CGM use, attitudes, and HbA1c levels, and whether it reduces racial and ethnic differences.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a practical, low-cost way to help teens with type 1 diabetes use glucose monitors more regularly and improve blood sugar control.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 37 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The program is behavioral, not a drug, so benefits may be modest and hard to sustain.
