New absorbable nerve cap aims to stop phantom pain after finger loss

Summary
This study tests a small absorbable cap placed over cut nerve endings during finger amputation surgery. The goal is to prevent painful neuromas (nerve balling) that often cause chronic pain. Twenty adults who have had a traumatic finger amputation will be followed for up to a year to see if the cap reduces pain and cold intolerance.
