New drug duo aims to shrink rectal tumors before surgery

Summary
This study tests whether adding two targeted drugs (tucatinib and trastuzumab) to standard chemotherapy can make HER2-positive rectal cancer disappear or shrink significantly before surgery. About 37 adults with locally advanced disease will receive the combination, then be checked for a complete response. The goal is to improve outcomes without needing lifelong medication, though ongoing monitoring is expected.
