New drug aims to shrink polyps in inherited colon cancer condition
NCT ID NCT06557733
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jul 09, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests whether the drug TPST-1495 can reduce the number and size of polyps in the small bowel and colon of people with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), an inherited condition that greatly raises colon cancer risk. About 38 participants will take the drug by mouth and undergo endoscopies to measure polyp changes. The study is currently on hold.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- TPST-1495 (a drug that blocks certain prostaglandin receptors to reduce polyp growth)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a new way to reduce polyp burden in people with FAP, potentially lowering their cancer risk without needing more surgeries.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase trial (38 people) that is currently suspended. The drug may not shrink polyps enough, and side effects could be significant.
