Underwater colonoscopy could spot hidden polyps and reduce cancer risk
NCT ID NCT06333392
First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated May 02, 2026 · Updated 22 times
Summary
This study compares a new technique called total underwater colonoscopy (TUC) with the standard gas method in 1,070 people undergoing colorectal cancer screening after a positive stool test. TUC uses water instead of gas to inflate the colon, which may make flat, hard-to-see polyps more visible and easier to remove completely. The goal is to improve detection of these polyps, reduce pain during the procedure, and lower the need for repeat exams, ultimately helping to prevent colorectal cancer.
