Brain scans may predict who benefits from TMS for depression
NCT ID NCT07422844
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study observes 100 people with depression who are already receiving transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) therapy. Researchers use brain scans and symptom questionnaires to see how brain networks change during treatment and whether these changes can predict who gets better. The goal is to understand why TMS works for some people but not others.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors predict which depression patients will benefit from TMS therapy, making treatment more personalized.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It aims to understand brain changes, not to prove TMS works. Results may not lead to immediate clinical changes.
