First seen May 30, 2026 · Last updated Jun 20, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study compares two types of nerve blocks (thoracolumbar interfascial plane block and retrolaminar block) to see which one helps patients recover better after lumbar spine fusion surgery. 70 adults scheduled for surgery will receive one of the two blocks before the procedure. The main goal is to measure recovery quality 24 hours after surgery, along with pain levels and opioid use.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
local anesthetic (injected via ultrasound guidance)
What this could lead to
If one block works better, it could lead to a standard way to reduce pain and speed recovery after spine surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study (70 people) comparing two similar techniques. It may not find a clear winner, and results may not apply to all patients.
