First seen Nov 24, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tested whether strengthening a small thumb muscle (first dorsal interosseous) can reduce pain and improve pinch strength in people with thumb osteoarthritis. 160 adults who already used a thumb splint were assigned to either a strengthening program or standard care. After 12 weeks, researchers measured changes in pinch strength and pain levels to see if the exercise offered extra benefit.
