Ultrasound breakthrough could catch deadly lung complication early in scleroderma patients

NCT ID NCT04725786

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tested whether a painless, radiation-free chest ultrasound can spot early signs of lung disease in people with systemic scleroderma, a condition that often leads to deadly lung scarring. Researchers studied 30 adults who had no detectable lung damage on standard CT scans. The goal was to see how many showed abnormal ultrasound patterns, which could allow for earlier treatment and better outcomes.
