Ultrasound may spot hidden lung disease in scleroderma patients

NCT ID NCT04725786

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated Apr 24, 2026 · Updated 12 times

Summary

This study looked at whether a simple, painless chest ultrasound can find early signs of lung disease in people with systemic scleroderma. Lung disease is a major cause of death in scleroderma, and catching it early is key. The study included 30 adults with scleroderma who had no obvious lung damage on standard CT scans. Researchers used ultrasound to check for subtle changes, aiming to see if this tool could help diagnose lung problems sooner.
