Summary

Many people who care for a family member with dementia struggle with sleep. This trial tests an 8-week program that combines a sleep self-help manual, cartoon videos, and weekly telephone coaching. Researchers randomly assign 120 caregivers to either the sleep program or an educational booklet with check-in calls. They measure sleep quality, caregiving stress, and quality of life at the start, right after the program, and three months later.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only, not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Telephone-Coached Sleep Bibliotherapy, an 8-week behavioral program with a sleep manual, cartoon videos, and weekly telephone coaching
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a low-cost, phone-based way to help dementia caregivers sleep better, without needing to visit a clinic.
What could go wrong
This is a small behavioral trial, and sleep improvements may not last or may not apply to all caregivers. The program requires weekly phone calls and active participation, which some caregivers may find hard to keep up.
