Remote cigarette study tests if filter holes change toxin exposure

NCT ID NCT04514471

First seen Jan 12, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tested whether it's possible to run a smoking study entirely through telehealth visits. 64 adult smokers were asked to use cigarettes with either minimal or moderate filter ventilation. Researchers measured how much they smoked, their nicotine levels, and other health markers using at-home tests and mailed-in samples. The main goal was to see if people would stay in the study and follow the instructions remotely.
