Zapping acupoints before surgery may ease shoulder pain
NCT ID NCT07494591
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
Shoulder pain is common after keyhole lung surgery. This study tests whether a gentle electrical stimulation at specific body points (TEAS) before surgery can lower that pain. About 216 adults having lung surgery will be randomly assigned to receive TEAS or standard care. Researchers will compare pain levels and painkiller use between the groups.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) device
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a drug-free way to ease shoulder pain after lung surgery and reduce the need for painkillers.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial. The treatment may not reduce pain significantly, and results may not apply to all patients.
