Ear zaps may steady heart and BP in Parkinson's

NCT ID NCT07557706

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This early study tests whether a gentle, non-invasive nerve stimulation device placed in the ear (taVNS) can improve how the body regulates heart rate and blood pressure in people with Parkinson's disease. Researchers will measure changes during simple physical tasks like deep breathing and standing up. The goal is to see if taVNS could one day support physical therapy and daily function.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (taVNS) device

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a non-drug way to help people with Parkinson's manage blood pressure and heart rate issues, making daily activities and exercise easier.

What could go wrong

This is a very early Phase 1 study with only 24 people. It is designed to test basic body responses, not to prove a treatment works. The effects may be small or not helpful in real life.
