C-Section pain study: which TAP block works best?
NCT ID NCT05750992
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests two methods of delivering a TAP block—a type of pain shot—after a planned C-section. One method uses ultrasound to guide the needle, the other is done by the surgeon during the operation. The goal is to see which approach provides better pain control and is faster to perform. Fifty women having planned C-sections will take part.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
bupivacaine
What this could lead to
If one method is faster or better at controlling pain, it could become the standard approach for C-section recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to all women. Pain is subjective and hard to measure precisely.
