New hope for breast cancer patients: extra targeted drug may clear remaining tumors
NCT ID NCT07589699
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether adding 4 cycles of the targeted drug trastuzumab rezetecan (T-DXh) can eliminate residual cancer in HER2-positive breast cancer patients who still have disease after standard chemotherapy. About 59 adults will receive the drug before surgery. The main goal is to see how many achieve a complete response (no cancer found in breast or lymph nodes).
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Trastuzumab rezetecan (T-DXh), a targeted drug that delivers chemotherapy directly to HER2-positive cancer cells
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a more effective neoadjuvant option for patients who don't fully respond to standard therapy, potentially reducing recurrence risk.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study (59 participants) without a control group, so results may not be generalizable. The drug can cause side effects like low blood counts or lung inflammation.
