Pregnancy bladder leakage? simple ball exercises and deep breathing may offer relief

NCT ID NCT07520396

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether combining Swiss ball exercises with diaphragmatic breathing can reduce stress urinary incontinence (leaking urine when coughing, sneezing, or exercising) in pregnant women. Forty-two pregnant women with mild to moderate incontinence will be split into two groups: one doing Swiss ball exercises plus breathing, the other doing Swiss ball exercises alone. Both groups will also do standard Kegel exercises. Researchers will measure changes in incontinence symptoms, pelvic floor muscle strength, and quality of life over six weeks.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Swiss ball exercises and diaphragmatic breathing

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to manage stress urinary incontinence during pregnancy and improve pelvic floor strength and quality of life.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 42 participants, so results may not apply to all pregnant women. The exercises may not work for everyone, and there is no comparison to standard care alone.
