First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 06, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study tested whether suvorexant, a sleep medication, could improve sleep and reduce delirium (sudden confusion) in older adults recovering from heart surgery in the intensive care unit. About 100 patients aged 60 and older received either suvorexant or a placebo for 7 nights after surgery. The goal was to see if the drug helped them stay asleep and lowered their risk of postoperative confusion.
