Sweet smokes? study tests if sugar boosts cigarette appeal
NCT ID NCT05308316
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looked at how the amount of sugar in cigarette tobacco affects how much people enjoy smoking and how addictive the cigarettes seem. Thirty adult smokers tested cigarettes with different sugar levels and answered questionnaires about their experience. The goal was to see if lower-sugar cigarettes might be less appealing and less addictive.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward ways to reduce the addictiveness of cigarettes by lowering their sugar content.
