New tool could predict stroke risk in heart attack survivors

NCT ID NCT07171892

First seen Jun 26, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study aims to create a risk prediction tool for ischemic stroke in people who have had a heart attack but do not have atrial fibrillation. Researchers will analyze the medical records of 4,000 past patients to see if common hospital data can accurately predict stroke risk during the hospital stay and up to one year later. No new participants are being recruited, and all personal information will be removed to protect privacy.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could give doctors a simple way to identify heart attack survivors who are at higher risk of stroke, so they can take steps to prevent it.
What could go wrong
This is an early, observational study using old records. The tool may not be accurate enough for real-world use, and it won't be ready for patient care without further testing.
