First seen Apr 11, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tested whether a steroid injection into the thumb joint can reduce pain and improve hand function for people with thumb arthritis. 61 adults with thumb arthritis received either a steroid shot or a placebo (salt water) shot, both with numbing medicine. Researchers measured pain and disability over 6 months to see if the steroid provided meaningful relief.
