Heart surgery recovery: can patients safely ditch strict precautions?

NCT ID NCT05206929

First seen Nov 11, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tested whether letting heart surgery patients manage their own recovery (self-managed sternal precautions) leads to better quality of life than following standard strict precautions. Researchers enrolled 10 adults who had chest-opening heart surgery and tracked pain, recovery, and complications for up to a year. The goal was to see if a more flexible approach could improve well-being without raising risks.
