Stent or no stent? new study questions routine practice after stone removal

NCT ID NCT07283003

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two approaches after ureteroscopy for ureteral stones: placing a temporary stent (a small tube) or leaving it out. Researchers want to see if skipping the stent reduces pain and complications. Sixty adults with ureteral stones will be randomly assigned to one of the two groups, and their recovery will be tracked.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that skipping the stent after ureteroscopy is safe and reduces patient discomfort, potentially changing standard practice.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 60 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. There is a risk that not stenting could lead to complications like blockage or infection.
