Stem cell trial for kids with arthritis pulled before it started
NCT ID NCT06623240
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study was designed to test whether infusions of stem cells from donated fat tissue could safely improve symptoms of juvenile idiopathic arthritis in children aged 2 to 17. The trial was a phase 2, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study, but it was withdrawn before any participants were enrolled. No results are available.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
allogeneic adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (HB-adMSCs)
What this could lead to
If this approach worked, it could point toward a new way to control juvenile arthritis without lifelong medication.
What could go wrong
The trial was withdrawn before enrolling anyone, so no results exist. Stem cell treatments for arthritis are still experimental and may not work or could cause side effects like allergic reactions or infections.
