Could your own fat cells save your leg? new trial aims to heal stubborn ulcers

NCT ID NCT06326203

First seen May 09, 2026 · Last updated May 09, 2026

Summary

This study tests a new treatment for people with severe leg ulcers caused by poor blood flow (critical limb ischemia). Doctors will take a small amount of belly fat, grow stem cells from it, and inject them around the ulcer. They will also apply a special dressing made with these cells. The goal is to see if this approach can heal wounds better than standard care and reduce the need for leg amputation. 40 adults will take part and be followed for 4 months.
