Stem cell patch could mend broken hearts in groundbreaking trial
NCT ID NCT07471698
First seen Mar 24, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This early-stage study tests whether a special patch made from human stem cells can help repair heart muscle in 16 people with severe, end-stage heart failure who are already scheduled for bypass surgery. During the operation, half of the participants will receive the cell-loaded patch placed directly on the heart, while the other half will get a placebo patch. The main goals are to check for safety issues like abnormal heart rhythms or tumors, and to see if the patch can improve heart function and reduce scar tissue.
