Tooth socket healing without grafting: new study tests simpler approach
NCT ID NCT07460648
First seen Mar 15, 2026 · Last updated Jun 16, 2026 · Updated 18 times
Summary
This study looked at 24 healthy adults who needed a dental implant after a tooth was removed. Doctors used a technique called socket shield therapy, where a small piece of the tooth root is left in place to help preserve the jawbone. The study compared two approaches: letting the socket heal naturally versus using a bone graft before placing the implant. The goal was to see if natural healing works just as well, which could simplify the procedure and avoid extra surgery.
