Spleen scan could spare PBC patients unnecessary scopes
NCT ID NCT07319169
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether measuring spleen stiffness with a simple ultrasound-like test (FibroScan) can help doctors better predict complications in people with Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC). Researchers will follow 125 adults already on standard treatment, adding a spleen stiffness measurement and two questionnaires to their regular check-ups every 6 months. The goal is to see if this extra measurement can identify who is at low risk for serious liver problems, potentially avoiding uncomfortable and costly endoscopic exams.
