Spinal surgery breakthrough? simple injection may cut pain and blood loss

NCT ID NCT07101198

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether an ultrasound-guided nerve block (erector spinae plane block) given before major spinal surgery can reduce pain and bleeding. 120 adults having spinal stabilization surgery were randomly assigned to receive either the nerve block plus standard care or standard care alone. The researchers measured blood loss during surgery and pain levels afterward. The goal is to see if this simple injection can improve recovery and reduce complications.

What this could lead to

If it works, this could lead to a simple injection that reduces pain and bleeding during spinal surgery, helping patients recover faster.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed study. The nerve block may not work for everyone, and there are risks like infection or allergic reaction. More research is needed.
