Could a Two-Level nerve block better tame breast surgery pain?

NCT ID NCT07747623

First seen Aug 05, 2026 · Last updated Aug 06, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial is testing whether giving a nerve block at two levels of the spine provides better pain relief after breast surgery than the standard one-level block. The study will enroll 70 adults undergoing breast surgery, who will receive either a single injection or two injections of a numbing medication before the operation. Researchers will measure pain scores at rest and while coughing over the first 24 hours after surgery to see which approach works better.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Erector spinae plane block (a nerve block procedure using bupivacaine)
What this could lead to
If one technique proves better, it could lead to more effective pain control after breast surgery, potentially reducing the chance of chronic pain and improving recovery.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage comparison, and results may not apply to all patients. Nerve blocks can sometimes cause side effects like infection or nerve damage, though rare.
