Shocking paralysis: new device aims to restore movement

Summary

This early study tests a device that sends mild electrical pulses to the spinal cord and limbs to help people with paralysis or weakness from spinal cord injury, stroke, or other nerve damage. Up to 64 participants will attend up to 5 sessions per week for a year, performing tasks to improve arm, hand, or leg movement. The goal is to see if the device can safely improve muscle control and function.
