Urine test could spare spina bifida patients from invasive kidney checks

NCT ID NCT06041334

First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 23, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study looks at whether two substances found in urine (TIMP-2 and MMP-2) can help predict kidney damage in people with spina bifida. Researchers will compare these biomarkers with the standard Galloway score, which requires invasive testing. About 50 participants will provide urine samples during their regular check-ups. If successful, this could lead to a simpler, non-invasive way to monitor kidney health.
