Special PE classes aim to stop myopia, obesity, and anxiety in their tracks
NCT ID NCT07237698
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether replacing some regular gym classes with specialized physical education courses can prevent common health issues like nearsightedness, overweight, anxiety, and depression in junior high students. Two hundred students will be randomly assigned to either the special PE program or regular classes. The goal is to see if this approach reduces the number of students with multiple health problems.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
specialized physical education courses
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a simple, school-based program to prevent several common health problems in teenagers at once.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study in one school, so results may not apply broadly. The intervention is behavioral, so adherence and long-term effects are uncertain.
