Can a sleep mask calm your heart? new trial tests CPAP for AFib

NCT ID NCT07087587

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether using a CPAP machine in a personalized way can reduce the amount of time people with atrial fibrillation (AFib) spend in an irregular heart rhythm. Twenty adults with both moderate-to-severe sleep apnea and AFib will alternate two weeks on and two weeks off CPAP for 12 weeks. The goal is to see if CPAP use lowers AFib burden and improves heart-related quality of life.

What this could lead to

If it works, this could show that using CPAP in a personalized way helps reduce AFib episodes and improve quality of life for people with both conditions.

What could go wrong

This is a small pilot study with only 20 people, so results may not apply to everyone. It's also possible that CPAP use won't significantly change AFib burden.
