Could a healthy Person's nose bacteria cure sinusitis?
NCT ID NCT07184684
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether transplanting nasal bacteria from a healthy donor can relieve chronic sinusitis. Fifty adults with sinusitis will receive either the bacteria rinse or a placebo for five days. The goal is to see if symptoms improve and if the nasal microbiome becomes healthier.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
sinonasal microbiome transplant (nasal lavage from a healthy donor)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new, non-surgical treatment for chronic sinusitis by restoring a healthy nasal microbiome.
What could go wrong
This is an early phase 2/3 trial with only 50 people. The previous pilot was small, and the placebo effect is strong in sinusitis studies. The treatment requires daily nasal rinses for five days, which may be inconvenient.
