Singing together may ease dementia symptoms, small study hints
NCT ID NCT06880237
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether an 8-week choral singing program can improve the well-being of nursing home residents with dementia. Participants attend one 75-minute group singing session each week, plus a dress rehearsal and final concert. Researchers measure changes in stress hormones (cortisol) and social bonding hormones (oxytocin) from saliva samples, and track mood, apathy, aggression, and depression using a standard questionnaire. The goal is to see if singing together can reduce the mental and physical effects of dementia.
