NCT ID NCT07648394

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jul 23, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study tests whether Shouhui Tongbian Capsules, a traditional Chinese herbal medicine, can relieve constipation after surgery for benign anal or rectal conditions like hemorrhoids. 120 adults will be randomly assigned to take either the herbal capsules or a standard laxative for 8 weeks. Researchers will track symptoms, pain, quality of life, and changes in gut bacteria to see how the medicine works.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Shouhui Tongbian Capsules (Chinese herbal medicine)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a gentler, non-addictive option for constipation after anorectal surgery, potentially reducing pain and speeding recovery.
What could go wrong
This is an early-phase trial with only 120 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The herbal capsules may not work better than the standard laxative, and side effects are possible.
