Could special insoles ease knee pain? small study aims to find out
NCT ID NCT06251167
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether special shoe insoles can reduce pain in people with knee osteoarthritis who also have foot pain. About 31 participants will wear either lateral wedge insoles or insoles with added arch support for at least 5 hours a day over 3 months. Researchers will measure pain, function, and walking mechanics to see if the insoles help and if a larger trial is possible.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- shoe insoles (lateral wedge insoles and lateral wedge plus custom arch support)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a simple, non-drug way to reduce knee and foot pain in people with knee osteoarthritis.
- What could go wrong
- This is a very small feasibility study with only 31 people, so results may not apply widely. The insoles may not provide meaningful pain relief for everyone.
