Shock waves zap back pain: new hope for sufferers?

NCT ID NCT07245498

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study tested whether adding extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) to standard physical therapy helps people with long-term low back pain more than physical therapy alone. 69 adults with chronic, non-radicular low back pain were split into two groups: one got real ESWT plus physical therapy, the other got a fake ESWT plus physical therapy. Researchers measured pain and disability before treatment, right after, and one month later.
