Shock waves could soothe sore knees without surgery
NCT ID NCT07125430
First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether adding shock wave therapy to a knee strengthening exercise program reduces pain and improves function more than exercise alone in people with knee osteoarthritis. Forty patients with moderate knee pain will be randomly assigned to either exercise only or exercise plus three weekly shock wave sessions. Researchers will measure pain, stiffness, and mobility over three weeks to see if the combination approach offers extra relief.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- shock wave therapy
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a non-drug, non-surgical option to ease pain and improve mobility for people with knee osteoarthritis.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants, so results may not apply widely. The treatment is added to exercise, making it hard to separate effects.
