Can a smartphone app boost sexual health after a stem cell transplant?

NCT ID NCT06541002

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study is testing a new digital application called SHIFT to see if it can improve sexual health, quality of life, and reduce distress in people who have had a stem cell or bone marrow transplant. The trial will enroll 300 adult survivors who are at least three months post-transplant and have sexual health concerns. Participants will either use the SHIFT app over 8 weeks or receive enhanced usual care, which includes a medical check-up and possible medications.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

digital application (SHIFT) with behavioral modules and clinician consultation

What this could lead to

If it works, this could provide a convenient, self-paced digital tool to help stem cell transplant survivors improve their sexual health and quality of life.

What could go wrong

This is a relatively small, early-stage trial testing a behavioral intervention, so results may not apply to all survivors. The app is only available in English and Spanish, which limits who can use it.
