Diabetes drug study reveals hidden genetic links to weight and inflammation

NCT ID NCT07120828

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This completed study looked at how two common diabetes drugs, dapagliflozin and empagliflozin, affect weight, cholesterol, and inflammation in 260 obese adults newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Over six months, researchers measured changes in body weight, blood fats, and markers of oxidative stress, and also checked how a gene called CYP8B1 might influence these effects. The goal was to better understand the broader health benefits of these medications beyond blood sugar control.
