Pancreatic cancer radiation gets a boost: safety trial tests higher doses
NCT ID NCT02454140
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This completed phase I trial tested whether higher doses of a precise type of radiation called stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) are safe for people with pancreatic cancer. Thirty patients with inoperable or locally advanced pancreatic cancer received five targeted radiation sessions. The main goal was to find the highest dose that doesn't cause severe side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) - a precise, high-dose radiation treatment
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help determine a safer, more effective radiation dose for treating pancreatic cancer, potentially improving local tumor control.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial focused on safety, not effectiveness. The higher doses may cause more side effects, and results may not apply to all patients.
