Could a wearable ultrasound device ease knee arthritis pain without drugs?
NCT ID NCT07515872
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 2 trial tests a wearable device that delivers continuous ultrasound to the knee for 1-4 hours daily, with or without a diclofenac pain patch, compared to a standard steroid injection. 240 adults aged 65-85 with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis will use the device at home for 12 weeks. The goal is to see if the ultrasound treatment reduces pain and improves joint function.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ultrasound device with or without diclofenac patch
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a non-invasive, drug-free option for managing knee osteoarthritis pain at home.
What could go wrong
This is an early phase 2 trial with 240 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The device requires daily use for hours, which may be inconvenient.
