First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated Jun 05, 2026 · Updated 22 times
Summary
This study looks at a protein called Mitofusin-1 in saliva to see if it can help measure how severe gum disease is and how well treatment works. Researchers will compare healthy people, those with mild to severe gum disease, and smokers with severe gum disease. Participants give saliva samples and get a dental exam, and those with gum disease receive standard treatment. The goal is to find a simple, non-invasive way to diagnose and monitor gum disease.
