Zapping resistant tumors: could radiation extend the life of current breast cancer therapy?

NCT ID NCT06882499

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This trial is for people with ER-positive, HER2-negative advanced breast cancer whose disease has started to grow in a few spots while on hormone therapy and a CDK4/6 inhibitor. It tests whether adding targeted radiation (SABR) to those spots allows patients to stay on their current treatment longer, compared to switching to a different systemic therapy chosen by their doctor. The study aims to see if this strategy delays the need for a treatment change.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR)

What this could lead to

If successful, this approach could allow patients to stay on their current hormone therapy longer by zapping resistant spots with radiation, delaying the need for stronger drugs.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial (74 participants) and may not show a clear benefit. SABR can cause side effects like fatigue or local pain, and not all patients may be suitable for radiation.
