One visit, two shots: study tests combining RSV and COVID vaccines for seniors
NCT ID NCT06374394
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This completed phase 3 trial tested whether giving an RSV vaccine and a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine at the same time is as safe and effective as giving them separately. About 841 adults aged 50 and older took part. Researchers measured immune responses and side effects one month after vaccination. The goal is to see if combining the shots is a practical option for protecting older adults against both respiratory viruses.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
RSVPreF3 OA investigational vaccine and COVID-19 mRNA vaccine (Omicron XBB.1.5)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that getting both vaccines at the same visit is safe and effective, making it more convenient for older adults to protect against RSV and COVID-19.
What could go wrong
This is a completed phase 3 trial, but results are not yet published. The study only looks at immune response and short-term safety, not long-term protection. Co-administration might still cause more side effects than separate shots.
