New root canal dressings aim to cut pain and speed healing

NCT ID NCT07641933

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares three different root canal dressings used between visits in retreatment cases. The goal is to see which one best reduces inflammation, shrinks infection-related lesions, and lowers pain. Sixty adults with previously treated but still infected lower first molars will be randomly assigned to one of the three dressings.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
calcium silicate or calcium hydroxide mixed with sodium hypochlorite
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a better root canal dressing that reduces pain and speeds healing after retreatment.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 60 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatments are already used in dentistry, so no major new risks are expected.
