Road map or ultrasound? small study tests safer leg artery punctures
NCT ID NCT07427108
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two techniques for guiding a needle into a blocked leg artery from the opposite direction (retrograde). One uses a live X-ray map, the other uses ultrasound. Researchers want to see which is safer and more successful in 32 people with severe leg artery disease. The goal is to reduce complications like bleeding or vessel damage.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show which guidance method is safer and more effective for retrograde angioplasty, potentially improving outcomes for patients with blocked leg arteries.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early feasibility study with only 32 participants, so results may not apply broadly. The comparison may not find a clear winner, and complications like bleeding or vessel damage are possible.
